SEMPORNA, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Various agencies under the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) have allocated RM1.05 million in financial aid to Pulau Mabul under the Santuni Komuniti MADANI programme.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, said the aid includes the construction of the Maqbul Mosque on land donated by an island resident and donations to the Madrasah Islamiah in Kampung Pulau Mabul.

"The assistance also includes food baskets, safety jackets, solar lamps for the Mabul Village Fishermen's Association, and school supplies for the local community.

"The agencies involved are Tabung Haji, Yayasan Taqwa of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM), Tabung Musaadah under the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), and Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia," he told reporters here today.

He expressed gratitude to the federal agencies as well as the state government and hoped that the aid provided would benefit the residents.

Meanwhile, Mohd Na'im urged the Sabah Islamic Syariah Judiciary Department, State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS), Immigration Department, National Registration Department (NRD), and Semporna District Office to visit the island and address the residents’ lack of personal documentation.

"The lack of documentation is closely tied to the marital status of couples. If their marital status is not legally verified, NRD cannot issue any documents confirming the couple and their children are citizens.

"The problem is that they need to travel to the Tawau Syariah Court, which costs money. Furthermore, the NRD and JHEAINS offices are located in Kota Kinabalu, making it difficult for them to obtain valid documents," he explained.

He added that the agencies’ efforts at the grassroots level could help the islanders resolve these matters more effectively.
