KUALA PERLIS,  April 15 (Bernama) -- The Perlis Education Department (JPN) is introducing a cashless payment system in schools in the state with the use of a special card.

Its director, Naharudeen Othman said the cashless payment could be used by students for various transactions, including at the school canteen and cooperative, scan for attendance and to borrow books.

"We are targeting 50 per cent of the schools in Perlis to implement cashless payments using the special cards by the end of this year to facilitate transactions in school," he told Bernama recently.

He said students from the B40 family could also use the card and the financial assistance given to them would be credited directly into the card.

Meanwhile, Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) chief executive officer Mohd. Nazim Mohd. Noor described the move as “very good” as it could help achieve the objective of the financuial assistance given to the students concerned, especially from the B40 family.

"This system also helps to educate students so that they understand the importance of financial management," he added.
