KANGAR, July 4 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and E-Idaman Sdn Bhd (E-Idaman) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in assisting the government manage solid waste.
It was signed by UniMAP vice-chancellor, Prof Ts Dr Zaliman Sauli and E-Idaman chief executive officer, Zaki Abdul Aziz Daud at the university’s Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Chancellery auditorium, here.
UniMAP, through a statement, said the initiative was to assist the government create a cost-effective and efficient solid waste management system towards making Malaysia a clean, healthy, peaceful and prosperous nation.
Meanwhile, Zaliman said the MoU was also aimed at raising collaboration in conducting training and research, seminars, conferences and workshops, and in acquiring sponsorships from outside sources.
He said an MoU had been signed between UniMAP and E-Idaman in 2019 which was followed by the creation of the UniMAP-E-Idaman Research Laboratory and placing of the anaerobic composting machine (AD50) with the capacity of processing 50 kilogrammes of food waste per day and producing 5m3 biogas for cooking, as well as biocompost.
“The MoU signed today is for a period of five years, thus giving the opportunity for both parties to share facilities for educational, research, sharing of technical expertise, conducting of awareness campaign purposes in managing solid waste,” he added.
