Bernama Told To Channel Contribution To Family Of Late Wan Noor Hayati Fast - Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) -- The Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil has instructed the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) to quickly disburse a contribution to the family of former journalist and Kajai Award winner, Wan Noor Hayati Wan Alias, via Tabung Kasih@HAWANA 2023. 

In expressing his sadness over the demise of Wan Noor Hayati or better known as Wanti who passed away this evening, Fahmi said this is because the issue of welfare among media practitioners is his priority.

"Before this, in a post-Cabinet meeting last week, I asked Bernama to quickly hold discussions with the Finance Ministry to ensure the RM1 million fund announced by the Prime Minister at the National Journalists’ Day 2023 (HAWANA) in May is provided as Bernama welfare fund.

“ It is so especially for the benefit of media practitioners and veteran journalists who are in need,” he told Bernama after appearing as a guest in Ruang Bicara, a Bernama TV production tonight.

The Tabung Kasih@HAWANA which is an initiative of the Communications and Digital Ministry, is implemented through Bernama as an ongoing effort to assist the media community who are facing difficulties as well as life challenges. 

Earlier, it was reported that Wan Noor Hayati, 44, had passed away at Serdang Hospital here at about 6.10 pm due to heart failure after battling pneumonia.

Besides having served with Utusan Malaysia, the deceased was a former Berita Harian and Media Variasi reporter and had won the Kajai Award, the highest award in the field of national journalism given by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) in 2013.

The deceased was a single mother and left behind a nine-year-old son.
