Fire Razes 16 Hawker Stalls In Jelutong

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 5 (Bernama) -- An early morning fire razed a row of 16 hawker stalls at Lorong Bukit Dumbar in Jelutong here.

Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station chief A’azelan Hassan said about 80 per cent of the stalls were destroyed, but there were no casualties.

He said a team of 39 firefighters from the Jalan Perak, Paya Terubong and Lebuh Pantai fire stations was dispatched to the scene after being alerted to the incident at 5.32 am.

“The blaze also affected a Proton Preve car parked near the stalls, causing about three per cent damage.

“Firefighters were able to completely extinguish the fire by 6.49 am,” he said when contacted, adding that the cause of the fire and losses suffered are under investigation.
