KANGAR, April 14 (Bernama) -- The Kangar Industrial Training Institute (ILP) is introducing the Tahfiz Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme for the first time with the aim to enhance employability among individuals with religious school backgrounds who have undergone skill-based training in the country.

Its director Ts Haji Mohd Yusri Mohd Rahim, said that the programme offers two skills courses, namely Arc and Gas Welding Technology and Mechanical Maintenance Technology and each course runs for three months on a full-time basis.

“We've teamed up with the Faizuddin Centre of Educational Excellence (FCoEE) and the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs) to admit Tahfiz students from madrasas and similar institutions. Religious school leavers are welcome to apply too.

“Registration for the Tahfiz TVET programme will open at the end of April. We hope to accommodate 60 students, with 30 students for each course," he said when met at ILP Kangar recently.

Mohd Yusri added that students who complete the three-month skills programme will receive a Micro-Credential acknowledged by the Skills Development Department and this certificate is highly sought after in the industry.

“This will be an added value for Tahfiz students and religious school leavers. With this skills certificate, they can easily find employment in the industry and even if they choose not to work in the industry, they can use their skills to work on their own as a welder," he said.

He said the perks of joining the Tahfiz TVET skills programme at ILP Kangar are participants enjoy complimentary food, accommodation and tuition along with a monthly RM100 allowance for three months.

He added that a course on introduction to entrepreneurship would be offered to students towards the programme's end, while Quran memorisation activities will also be included throughout the programme.

"The learning schedule for this skills programme will run from 10am to 5pm, with additional activities available for Tahfiz students after 5pm, including Quran recitation and memorisation," he said.
