KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- From May 1-7, Uzbekistan will host the biennial "Boysun Spring" (Boysun Bahori) International Folklore Festival in Boysun, Surkhandarya region.
This significant event is designed to highlight the nation's ethno-tourism and eco-tourism capabilities, fostering deeper cultural connections globally and supporting local creative industries, according to a statement from the Uzbekistan embassy here.
The festival is poised to attract a diverse international audience, with participants expected from 20 countries and an estimated 100,000 local and 5,000 foreign visitors projected to attend.
“This year’s festival will be situated in the newly opened modern tourism complex in the “Bibishirin” neighbourhood.
“The complex boasts extensive facilities including a modern hotel with 110 beds, a craft centre with capacity for 100 guests, an expansive amphitheatre that seats 3,200 people, and traditional yurts representing the region’s 15 districts,” said the statement.
Anticipated to draw folklore enthusiasts, performers, folklorists, and industry experts from across the globe, the festival will utilise the stunning mountain landscapes of Uzbekistan as its backdrop.
It aims to provide a unique platform for visitors to immerse themselves in the country’s rich folklore and ethnographic traditions, enjoy traditional sports and witness performances by both local and international artistes.
The programme for the 2024 festival is rich and varied, featuring an international scientific-practical conference, a national cuisine festival showcasing authentic food tandir kebab – a regional specialty, and exhibitions of traditional crafts and national costumes.
Additional entertainment at the festival will include drone and auto shows, various concert programmes and a bicycle marathon which all will be complemented by a traditional air balloon festival that offers a unique perspective on the region’s scenic beauty.
For adventure seekers, the festival provides opportunities to explore local springs, canyons and historical monuments.
It also offers a chance to participate in kite flying, rooster fights, traditional wrestling, and uloq (kupkari) equestrian competitions, popular ethno-sports in Uzbekistan, added the statement.
