KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) came out tops in the Print and News Portal (Best News) category at the 2024 Agrobank Media Awards Night today.

Its Kelantan bureau journalist, Mohd Noor Iqram Rosli bagged the award for his report "Program Agrobank Upward Migration Berjaya Bantu Peserta Tingkat Perniagaan” and took home RM5,000 in cash and a trophy.

Bernama Radio's Siti Hashmar Hashim, meanwhile, finished second in the Best Radio Media Award for the programme "Status Semasa Beras Negara”, pocketing RM3,000 in cash and a trophy.

Bernama Features Desk journalist Muhammad Basir Roslan came in third in the Print and News Portal (Best Features) for his article "Usahawan Tenusu Kongsi Kejayaan Dengan Modal Awal Seekor Lembu” to clinch RM1,000 in cash and a trophy.

A delighted Mohd Nor Iqram said he never expected to be the one to bag the award from the 130 nominees.

"Initially, I was just covering an event with Agrobank and interviewing several programme participants. While covering the event, there were interesting stories from the participants and I got the idea to continue writing about them,” he said.

He also hopes that Agrobank will continue to host such media awards ceremonies to celebrate the work and achievements of media practitioners in reporting on Agrobank’s programmes.

Meanwhile, Agrobank president and chief executive officer Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin, in his speech, said the Agrobank Media Award ceremony featured six categories and 18 winners.

He said Agrobank was honoured to earn recognition from the media for appreciating the development of the agricultural sector and food security.

"This (2024 Media Awards Night) is also a good effort to elevate the field of journalism so that it can continue to produce quality work and benefit the agricultural sector in general,” he said.

Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) chief executive officer Datuk Mustapa Omar expressed gratitude to Agrobank for sponsoring the event, which recognises the contributions of journalists in news reporting.

“We received 130 entries for this year’s awards and the judges found all of them to be good, thus, making it difficult to determine the winner for each category. We hope there will be even more participation from the media next year,” he said.
