RECORD ATTEMPT: THREE GENERATIONS TARGET 10,000 FREE PACKS OF FRIED NOODLES IN 24 HOURS

GEORGE TOWN, June 22 (Bernama) -- Padang Kota Lama here turned into a ‘Fried squid noodle Festival’ when the Young Muslim Sports Club (YMSC), in collaboration with the house of Seeni Food & Beverage Sdn Bhd, attempted to get into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) by giving away 10,000 pack of noodles for free to the public.

YMSC president Munowar Sadiq MKE Kader Sultan said the “Most Mee Goreng Sotong Giveaway” programme will be in progress for 24 hours from 5 pm today until 5 pm tomorrow.

“In one hour, we want to target 500 packs, so in 10 hours 5,000 packs and in 20 hours as many as 10,000 packs while we target to run out within 20 hours. Thankfully, everything went smoothly with 1,600 packs achieved in just one hour,” he told Bernama at Padang Kota Lama here today.

More interestingly, the House of Seeni’s fried squid noodle kitchen consists of three generations of family starting from the grandfather, Sheik Abidin Akm Mustaffa, 80, his son Seeni Mohamed Sheik Abidin, 47, and grandson Syed Muhammad Hafiz Seeni Mohamed, 24.

Munowar Sadiq said it was the brainchild of the youngest, Syed Muhamad Hafiz, and the total cost was estimated at almost RM100,000.

“For 10,000 packs, we spend RM100,000, for fried noodles alone (it costs) RM50,000. A packet of noodles would cost between RM4 and RM5 and we give a ‘sarbat’ (syrup drink), The remaining RM50,000 is spent on permits, tents, equipment, sound system and so on,” he said.

The programme “Most Mee Goreng Sotong Giveaway” was well received with many curious visitors taking the opportunity to savour the fried noodles, thus helping to create the MBOR record.

An entrepreneur, Nur Azira, 33, said the fried squid noodles have long been the centre of attention for the gourmet public’s attention.

“His (Seeni F&B) noodles really ‘explode’ (burst of a delicious sensation), it’s spicy (hot) enough to taste really good, so we came here to support this record (attempt),” she said.

Last year, YMSC created a MBOR record by painting the longest Jalur Gemilang Mural (national flag mural) in Malaysia measuring 541 metres, on the wall of Jalan Tanjong Bungah here.
