SURABAYA, June 27 (Bernama) -- After triumphing in the women's 50-metre breaststroke, national swimmer Phee Jinq En is now gunning for the 200-metre breaststroke title at the ASEAN University Games (AUG) 2024 in Surabaya-Malang tomorrow.

She said her win showed that she made the right decision to participate in the games, after failing to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

"I came here (AUG 2024) because I couldn't go to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and there are no other competitions for me this season.

"The victory here was expected because this is one of my best events," she told reporters at the Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia (KONI) swimming pool yesterday.

The 26-year-old swimmer yesterday displayed powerful strokes to secure the gold in the women's 50m breaststroke with a time of 32.03 seconds.

It was the third gold medal for the national contingent at AUG 2024 after judo exponent Nur Farrah Izzati Wallah won the first gold in the under 52-kilogramme event and Tan Khai Xin excelled in the men's 400m freestyle event.
