Six States Celebrate Maal Hijrah With Various Programmes

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- The Maal Hijrah 1446H/2024M celebrations in six states today featured various programmes, including talks, Quran recitations, and award presentations to individuals who have significantly contributed to religion and the country.

In PAHANG, Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, Tengku Ampuan of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, and Tengku Mahkota Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah attended the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration.

The event, held at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Broadcasting Complex in Kuantan, was attended by nearly 1,000 people. Former Pahang State Secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani L. Sulaiman was named the Tokoh Maal Hijrah and received a certificate, trophy, and RM10,000 in cash.

In his speech, Al-Sultan Abdullah urged everyone, especially the younger generation, to use digital platforms wisely and to leverage these mediums to spread constructive messages that strengthen bonds of brotherhood rather than weaken them.

"Be a good example in every deed and action, to become a source of inspiration and truth, not a source of conflict and confusion. To all the beloved people of Pahang, preserve the prosperity of this cherished land," he said.

In PERAK, Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah and Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim attended the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration at the Casuarina Convention Centre in Meru. 

Also present were Perak Raja Muda Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa; Raja Puan Besar Raja Nazhatul Shima Idris Shah; Raja Dihilir Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Idris Shah and Raja Puan Muda Tunku Soraya Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

At the event, attended by approximately 1,000 people, Sultan Nazrin also presented the Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award to senior lecturer at Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah Assoc Prof Dr Ahmad Husni Hasan; as well as the Saidina Abu Bakar Award (Tokoh Ar-Ridzuan) to principal research fellow at Universiti Malaya Prof Datuk Dr Wan Ramli Wan Daud.

In KEDAH, Sultan of Kedah Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah graced the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration held at Dewan Seri Negeri, Wisma Darul Aman, here attended by about 500 Muslims.

The celebration, which began at 10.30 am, was also attended by Kedah Raja Muda Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

In his speech, Sultan Sallehuddin reminded that Muslims should not sacrifice their identity solely for the sake of power, wealth, status, and popularity, as these are all fleeting.

His Royal Highness emphasised that Muslims should prioritise brotherhood, integrity, human quality, and blessings in all their actions.

During the event, Sultan Sallehuddin also presented the Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award to former Grand Imam of the National Mosque Datuk Taib Azamudden Md Taib who is also former Baling MP.

In SELANGOR, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah urged all Muslims to enhance their love and faith in Allah SWT in conjunction with the new Hijrah year.

In a post on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, Sultan Sharafuddin urged Muslims, especially in Selangor, to continue strengthening unity and harmony.

The state-level Maal Hijrah celebration took place last night at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque's Lecture Hall and Conference Room.

In PENANG, the Maal Hijrah celebration, held at the Seberang Perai Utara Mosque in Teluk Air Tawar, was launched by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak. 

In his speech, he urged the Muslim community in the state to embody the significance of the Hijrah event by fostering unity and strengthening brotherhood, as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad SAW in uniting the Muhajirin and Ansar.

Former Sungai Bakap assemblyman Datuk Maktar Shapee, 75, who served for two terms from 2008 to 2018, was selected as the Tokoh Maal Hijrah and received RM10,000 in cash, a certificate of appreciation, a trophy, and a gold bar.

In JOHOR, the Maal Hijrah celebration held at the Dewan Jubli Intan Johor Bahru was launched by state Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid and attended by State Secretary Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani.

The Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award was presented to former Syariah High Court Judge Jainudin Mt Sum @Munajat.

In TERENGGANU, the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration was launched by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and attended by State Secretary Datuk Seri Tengku Farok Hussin Tengku Abdul Jalil.

At the event, 1999 National and International Quran Recitation Competition champion, Masnah Awang, 73, who now serves as a Quran teacher under the Terengganu Islamic Foundation and the Terengganu Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT), was honoured as the Tokoh Maal Hijrah.

In PERLIS, Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, in his Maal Hijrah message posted on Facebook, urged Muslims to take the lessons of Maal Hijrah to transform themselves for the better.

The state-level Maal Hijrah celebration is scheduled to take place this Thursday (July 11), and expected to be launched by the Regent of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
