Perlis Super League Among Efforts By State Gov’t To Revive Football Scene

KANGAR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Perlis Super League is one of the state government’s key efforts to develop and advance football in the state and reinvigorate the football scene in Perlis.

State Youth Development and Sports Advancement Committee chairman Wan Zikri Afthar Ishak said that the Perlis Super League, in synergy with the Perlis State Football Association, has entered its third edition and evolved positively, capturing the attention of Perlis folks.

“For 2024, the Perlis Super League is further enlivened with the addition of the Perlis Cup, the Perlis Community Cup and the Fair Play Cup. Insya-Allah, the Perlis Super League will continue to be held for many more years and be better,” he said.

He was replying to a question from Abu Bakar Hamzah (PN-Kuala Perlis) during the question and answer session at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Abu Bakar wanted to know the state government’s efforts to revive the football arena in Perlis so that the roar of the Northern Lions could be heard again.

Wan Zikri Afthar also said that grassroots talent development is among the efforts taken to restore the glory days of football in Perlis, including the empowerment and support for the implementation of the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) through the existing Akademi Tunas.

“For the record, 19 young players have been called up to join the Akademi Mokhtar Dahari from 2018 to 2024. (In addition), the strengthening of the Perlis Tunas League in collaboration with stakeholders aims to ensure greater involvement of young players and a competitive league period,” he said.
