RAC To Develop New Economic Hub At Seremban KTMB Station

SEREMBAN, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) will develop a neglected area of approximately 16 hectares at the Seremban Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTMB) Station into a new integrated economic growth hub.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that RAC had received four proposals from major developers regarding the development concept for the area.

"We have big plans and are currently evaluating proposals that will offer the best returns to RAC. At the same time, we want to make this a catalyst for social development and economic progress in Seremban.

“We hope for integrated development in this area, with a concept that includes more than just shopping centres and residential spaces. The proposals include various attractions such as health centre, hospital, and private college," he told a press conference after launching the Sungai Ujong Pedestrian Tunnel here today

For the short-term plan, the Seremban MP said the area will be opened as a night-time food business site to attract visitors to the location, which is near an upgraded underground tunnel that now features its own unique attractions, connecting Terminal 1 Bus Station with the KTMB station.

"We know that development is concentrated in Seremban 2, so old Seremban needs to maintain its identity, but it also requires a development boost and a shift in economic activities here," he said.
