KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) – The Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) will collaborate with the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance Malaysia (ASAS) to broaden the knowledge base of the Shariah fraternity.

MAICSA president Datuk Akbar Moidunny said this includes Shariah advisors, Shariah officers, and those involved in Shariah control functions.

“This partnership aims to equip members with the expertise needed to support and advance Islamic finance, contributing to the sector’s continued and sustained growth.

“Additionally, by leveraging the expertise of MAICSA's governance professionals, ASAS can enhance governance standards within their field, ensuring that Shariah-compliant institutions operate with the highest levels of integrity and efficiency,” he said at the 65th Anniversary Annual Dinner yesterday.

MAICSA, the professional body for chartered secretaries and chartered governance professionals in Malaysia, boasts a membership of more than 6,000.

Established in 1959, the institute is one of the distinguished divisions of the Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) UK.

Akbar emphasised that MAICSA continues to set the benchmark for excellence in corporate governance by focusing on enhancing professional development, promoting good governance, and leveraging technology.

“As Malaysia strengthens its global market position, MAICSA’s members are often the first point of contact for international companies looking to operate in the country.

“Their expert guidance in corporate governance is crucial to navigating Malaysia’s regulatory landscape and environmental, social and corporate governance considerations, ensuring a smooth entry into the local market, and ultimately fostering economic growth and new opportunities,” he said.

Akbar further reiterated that chartered secretaries and governance professionals serve as multifaceted advisors and essential partners to boards.

He emphasised that it is crucial for them to lead the charge by embracing innovative ideas and staying ahead in corporate compliance that actively shapes the future of corporate governance for a better Corporate Malaysia.

During the event, the institute also announced winners of the MAICSA Young Governance Professionals Award and the MAICSA Company Secretary Awards, in recognition of excellence in the fields of Company Secretaryship and Corporate Governance.
