KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The digital content sector offers significant potential in the development of the country's economy and creativity, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

He said the government needs to ensure that Malaysia continues to be at the forefront of innovation and technology at the global level.

“I hope that the initiatives undertaken by the government can be continued with full commitment so that this country does not lack the talent and innovation needed to advance Malaysia’s digital economy.

“I also hope that programmes related to digital content are expanded in schools. The agencies under the Ministry of Digital are ready to assist the Ministry of Education in making these initiatives a success,” he said when officiating the Malaysia Digital Content Festival (MYDCF) and Mydigitalmaker International Carnival 2024 here today.

Gobind noted that Malaysia has successfully attracted investments related to digital content from several large-scale studios, namely Electronic Arts Codemasters, Streamline Studios, Bandai Namco, Playstation Studios, Larian Studios and Virtuous.

“The digital economy in the country is expected to contribute 25.5 percent to Malaysia's gross domestic product by 2025.

“I am confident that with ongoing initiatives such as MYDCF and MyDigitalMaker, we will be able to bolster the local digital economy by offering more job opportunities and enhancing global competitiveness,” he said.

Organised by the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the digital economy agency under the Ministry of Digital, from Sept 13-15, MYDCF and MyDigitalMaker 2024 are expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors, giving exposure to the younger generation about the importance of technology in future economic development via animation, digital games, comics and e-sports.
