08/10/2024 04:28 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- PT Semen Padang, a cement company with media ownership in West Sumatra, Indonesia, is set to establish a collaboration with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), particularly to promote culture and tourism in the region.

Its commissioner and chief editor of Harian Singgalang, Khairul Jasmi, said that they aim to realise this collaboration in the near future so that the news content presented on their respective radio, television and online platforms can be enhanced.

“We discussed earlier about a collaboration with Bernama for cultural exchange and selected tourism, which will be realised in the coming months,” he told Bernama after leading a delegation of 23 media practitioners from PT Semen Padang to the agency here today.

Among those joining the delegation were the Editor-in-Chief of Tribun Sumbar, Andrian Tuswandi; Langgam director, Andri Al Faruqi; Padang Ekspres editor, Rommi Delfiano and Harian Rakyat Sumbar editor, Sukri Umar.

Khairul described the visit as important since it allowed them to learn about various developments in the media, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, as well as to exchange views on issues faced by the media.

Head of Broadcasting for Bernama’s TV and Radio Division, Mohd Shukri Ishak, said that there is a need for both parties to produce more regional news content, especially with Malaysia set to chair ASEAN next year.

“PT Semen is not only a major cement company in Indonesia but also has media ownership for radio, television and online platforms. There is an opportunity for us to organise collaborative programmes in conjunction with Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN.

“This means there is a need to create more ASEAN-standard content that showcases news and programmes beneficial to both countries and we hope this can be implemented next year,” he said.

Earlier, in addition to being shown a video on the history of Bernama’s establishment, the delegation was also taken on a tour of the Editorial Department, Bernama TV, Digital Media and Bernama Radio to gain a closer insight into the operations of these departments.

Among those from Bernama's management present to receive the delegation were Deputy Editor-in-Chief of News Services Nasriah Darus; Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Economic News Services), Azlina Aziz, Head of Radio, Azlan Idris; Head of TV, Nor Hamzeela Md Hambali; Head of Corporate Affairs, Mariati Mohd Arif and Digital Media Editor, Noor Soraya Mohamad Jamal.
