Swift Cleanup At Zoo Negara After Tuesday’s Flood, No Animal Impact

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- None of the animals at Zoo Negara were affected by the recent flood following heavy rainfall on Tuesday.

Zoo Negara deputy president Datuk Rosly @ Rahmat Ahmat Lana confirmed that cleaning efforts were completed on the same day, and the zoo reopened as usual yesterday.

“On the day of the incident, water levels started to rise around 9.30 am, affecting almost all parts of the zoo, except for higher areas such as the Giant Panda Conservation Centre. The water began to recede by 11 am. 

“Zoo staff immediately began cleaning operations, including animal exhibition areas, with keepers in each section working to restore affected areas,” he said in a statement to Bernama today.

Rosly also said that fire department personnel, who were present to monitor the situation, helped clear public pathways in the zoo.

“Despite the flooding, no animals were directly impacted, and none escaped due to the rising waters. The care and supervision of the animals remained well under control throughout the incident,” he said. 

On Tuesday, heavy rains which started at around 8.30 am, caused flooding in several areas due to the overflow of major rivers, including Sungai Batu, Sungai Klang and Sungai Gombak.
