KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- Veteran journalist Mohd Sidek Salleh died early this morning due to colon cancer. He was 68.
The sad news was shared by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a Facebook post.
"I had the chance to visit Mohd Sidek at his home when he was ill. May his soul be placed among the righteous in the presence of the Almighty," he said.
Mohd Sidek, who also worked as a security guard, held several important positions during his time with Utusan Malaysia, including being the Utusan correspondent in London in 1985 and Perak bureau chief in 1989.
He also held roles such as assistant editor of Mingguan Malaysia in 1996, assistant chief sub-editor (1997) and his final position as assistant editor of Utusan Malaysia in 2006.
In May last year, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil took time to visit and present the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA 2023 contribution to Mohd Sidek while he was receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The Tabung Kasih@HAWANA programme, implemented through the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) as the executing agency for HAWANA, aims to support and provide assistance to journalists and media workers in need, whether they are still in service or retired, across the country.
