Being The Only Candidate For Top Post Is Proof Of FAM's Confidence In Me - Joehari

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Datuk Joehari Mohd Ayob feels that it is a sign of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM)'s confidence in him that he is the only candidate nominated to replace Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin as the national body's president for the 2025-2029 term ahead of the Feb 15 elections.

He said it is also proof of the complete trust given by the FAM affiliates for him to be the next person to helm the national football governing body, having previously served as vice-president.

"I want to thank the FAM affiliates who nominated me for FAM's top post.

"Whatever it is, let's wait until the 2025 FAM Congress on Feb 15 for me to formally begin my task as FAM president together with the lineup of Executive Committee Members who will be elected on that day,” he said in a statement.

Yesterday, FAM Election Committee chairman Prof Datuk Dr Abdullah Mohamad Said announced that Joehari was the only candidate for the top post when nominations closed at 5.30 pm on Thursday (Jan 16).

The nomination list also revealed that the two incumbent deputy presidents - Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi and Datuk S. Sivasundaram - are set to retain their positions.

Hamidin, the FAM president since 2018, had previously announced that he would not be defending his post to let a new person take the association to a higher level.

The 17 posts set to be contested at the FAM Congress are for president (one position), deputy presidents (two), vice-presidents (four) and executive committee members (10), including two seats allocated for women.
