KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- The number of flood evacuees housed at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in Sarawak has dropped while Sabah and Johor recorded an increase as of 8pm today.
IN SARAWAK, the Sarawak Disaster Management Secretariat said the number of evacuees dropped to 5,125 from 5,281 this afternoon with Sarikei being the latest to be affected by the disaster, thus opening a relief centre, bringing the total number of relief centres to 30.
The Bintulu Division recorded a drop in the number of evacuees from 1,889 this afternoon to 1,865 people and the same trend was experienced in the Miri Division with 1,217 evacuees compared to 1,291 people earlier.
In Sibu, the number of flood victims increased to 876 people compared to 848 people previously, the Serian Division remained at 507 victims, while the Samarahan Division dropped to 149 victims compared to 294 people this afternoon.
In addition, the Mukah Division saw an increase in the number of evacuees to 501 people compared to 452 people this afternoon while in Sarikei there are 10 evacuees from two families tonight.
IN SABAH, the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said the number of evacuees had risen to 228 from 60 families as of tonight compared to 201 from 53 families this afternoon.
According to him, Kinabatangan is the only district still hit by floods in the state where 73 people from 20 families are housed at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Sukau PPS and 155 people from 40 families are housed at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Garam PPS.
Meanwhile, in Johor, the latest state to be hit by floods, the number of evacuees increased to 364 people tonight compared to 349 this evening.
State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said all the evacuees from 106 families were housed at three relief centres operating in the Kota Tinggi district.
"The PPS that were activated were Dewan Muafakat Taman Desaru Utama with 173 evacuees, Dewan Kampung Baru Sungai Mas (34) and Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Penawar (157).
"Meanwhile, the affected areas include Taman Desaru Utama, Kampung Baru Sungai Mas and Taman Penawar Harmoni," he said in a statement today.
