Sarawak CNY Open House A Symbol Of Inclusivity And Unity - Dr Sim

KUCHING, Feb 17 (Bernama) — The Chinese New Year open house organised by the Sarawak state government continues to serve as a symbol of inclusivity and a cornerstone of the state’s nation-building efforts, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He explained that under the Sarawak Nation Building concept, the initiative is not just rooted in the state’s wealth, but also in values of togetherness, mutual support and pride in being Sarawakians.

“Nation-building must be grounded in values, what the state can do for its people, and what the people can contribute to the state.

“With the state’s stronger financial position today, failing to pursue progress would reflect weaknesses in unity and execution,” he told reporters at the Chinese New Year Open House held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today.

Dr Sim added that the event also reflects Sarawak’s identity as a state that prioritises unity and togetherness, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background.

"An open house means the doors are always open; no formal invitation is needed. This is what makes Sarawak unique, where people of all communities come together in traditional attire to celebrate and connect.

“In a world often divided, Sarawak stands out as a shining example of how a multicultural society can live in harmony and move forward collectively,” he said.

Also present to liven up the celebrations were the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

The open house, from 10 am to 2 pm, is expected to welcome around 5,000 visitors, with numbers expected to rise thanks to the favourable weather.
