ALOR GAJAH, April 12 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) concept is gaining wider acceptance since its introduction last year, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
He said this was reflected in the turnout of about 30,000 visitors at a Hari Raya open house he hosted in Masjid Tanah here today.
“Under the Melaka Sayang Rakyat banner, we bring the people of Melaka together to strengthen ties through an open house marked by harmony and unity among all races.
“Today, Malays, Chinese and Indians come together to celebrate a shared occasion, Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he told reporters at the event, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Guests were served a variety of dishes, including satay, lemang, asam pedas, roasted lamb and roti canai, while entertainment was provided by renowned artistes such as National Songstress Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Chakra Khan and Datuk Seri Rossa.
