JASIN, April 8 (Bernama) -- Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has confirmed that he has rejected the resignation of Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh as a state executive councillor (Exco), which was tendered by the UMNO Youth chief in January.
Ab Rauf said that following the decision, Dr Muhamad Akmal is expected to resume his duties as the state Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security Committee chairman.
"I have made the decision to reject his resignation letter as an Exco member. The prerogative to accept or reject (a resignation) lies solely with the Chief Minister," he told reporters after visiting the Phase Two Jus Water Treatment Plant construction project here today.
He was asked to comment on the current status of Dr Muhamad Akmal’s resignation as exco.
In January, Dr Muhamad Akmal, who is also Jasin UMNO Division chief, announced his decision to step down from the state cabinet post he has held since April 2023.
The Merlimau assemblyman made the announcement before 2,500 delegates during his keynote address at the 2025 UMNO Youth General Assembly at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur.
His decision at the time was widely viewed as a response to pressure from several DAP leaders who had challenged him to resign following his outspoken calls for UMNO to re-evaluate its position within the Unity Government.
