PUTRAJAYA, April 16 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil will hold technical discussions with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan to streamline the delivery of information on the West Asia crisis to prospective Malaysian haj pilgrims.
Fahmi said the move is crucial to ensure accurate and timely updates, particularly from Tabung Haji, to address any issues that may arise.
“The government understands the concerns of some parties amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, including the conflict in West Asia involving Israel, the United States and Iran,” he told reporters after attending the ministry’s monthly assembly here today.
Also present were Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching and the ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, as well as the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
Meanwhile, Fahmi noted that Zulkifli had informed the Cabinet that conditions remain safe for Malaysian pilgrims to perform the fifth pillar of Islam next month.
“Those who have received the offer letter but feel uncertain about performing the haj this year are advised to contact Tabung Haji for reassurance and further information,” he said.
Zulkifli has previously stressed that the safety of Malaysian haj personnel and pilgrims remains the government’s top priority, particularly in light of geopolitical developments in West Asia.
He also expressed confidence in the capability and experience of Tabung Haji personnel in managing haj operations and safeguarding the welfare of 31,600 Malaysian pilgrims.
The first flight of Malaysian pilgrims for the 1447H/2026 haj season is scheduled to depart on April 18, with the final flight set for May 20.
