MELAKA, June 7 (Bernama) -- Various basic facilities, including pump system, drainage and roof in four flats in the Kesidang state constituency here have been upgraded involving an allocation of RM1 million.

Kesidang assemblyman Allex Seah Shoo Chin said it involved three flats under the administration of the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) and one flat under the administration of the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB).

Seah, who is also the state Exco for Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs, said all four flats, which are over 30 years old, were improved for the comfort of the flat occupants involved an allocation channeled by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) under the Malaysian Housing Maintenance Fund.

"We have just received an allocation from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development of RM150,000 to replace the existing pump system at Rumah Pangsa Taman Merdeka involving nine blocks with a total of 300 houses which will benefit in particular in ensuring that water can be channeled properly without interruption of supply.

"In addition, we have also received an allocation of RM500,000 to replace the roof in one of the blocks at Rumah Pegaga while we have also been able to replace all the pipes in one of the blocks at Rumah Pangsa Malim Jaya involving an allocation of RM150,000," he told reporters at the Al-Jariah Madrasah Compound, Taman Melaka Baru 3 here today.

He said this after officiating the Jalinan Mesra Perpaduan @ KRT DUN Kesidang in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) Kesidang programme which was also attended by MPHTJ president Datuk Sapiah Haron.

Explaining further, Seah said that apart from that, the work to upgrade the pump and the reticulation system will also be implemented at Rumah Pangsa Taman Cheng Mutiara involving an allocation of RM120,000.

He said that apart from that, more than 10 sports facilities in the Kesidang DUN have also been upgraded including the fields in Taman Datuk Thamby Chik Karim and Taman Merdeka Jaya involving an allocation of more than RM200,000 for the use of residents and youth in the areas involved.

Earlier, he said that 57 main programmes will be implemented involving various government agencies and departments as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) throughout the Kesidang WRUR, starting today until June 13.

"The programmes organised involve aspects of people's welfare, community visits and education including the presentation of awards to the best students involving 100 recipients from 12 schools in the Kesidang constituency.
