Young Voters Need To Improve Political Literacy - PKR Youth Chief

13/06/2026 06:39 PM

BUTTERWORTH, June 13 (Bernama) -- Young voters need to improve their political literacy to make choices based on knowledge and understanding and not merely be influenced by sentiment or viral social media content.

PKR Youth Chief Mohd Kamil Munim said the right to vote was enshrined under the Constitution and should be exercised wisely as such choices would determine the direction of the country, which was important especially to youth who will be first time voters in the upcoming elections.

“This opportunity should be used wisely as our votes will determine the direction towards the future.

“If we don’t know what we are voting for, means we lack political literacy. The choice made won’t be based on understanding, awareness and knowledge,” he said at the northern zone Youth POV: Youth and Uncertain Realities Series 2 programme here today.

He also said youth should not base the truth of any information based on the number of likes, shares or level of popularity on social media, and urged them to study information, understand policies offered and to assess any party’s record and capabilities before making a choice during elections.
