KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's men’s hockey team signed off from the 2025-2026 International Hockey Federation (FIH) Nations Cup on a positive note after defeating Scotland 4-2 to finish fifth in Cape Town, South Africa today.

In the fifth-sixth placing match at the Hartleyvale Hockey Stadium, Malaysia got off to a bright start when Faizal Saari converted a penalty stroke in the eighth minute of the opening quarter.

The national side doubled their advantage in the second quarter through a field goal by Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal in the 19th minute.

Scotland, however, fought back in the third quarter with goals from Jamie Golden in the 32nd minute and David Nairn in the 44th minute to level the score.

Malaysia responded immediately, with Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook restoring the lead a minute later before Azrai Aizad grabbed his second goal of the match in the final quarter 10 minutes from time to seal the victory.

The result saw Malaysia improve on last year's sixth-place finish in the tournament.
