BANGKOK, July 21 (Bernama) -- Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is deeply concerned about the escalating situation of the deadly student-led protests in Bangladesh, advising Thais in the capital Dhaka to stay vigilant.

"I am deeply concerned about the escalating situation in Bangladesh. I am closely monitoring the rising tension. We call on all parties concerned to exercise restraint and come to a peaceful resolution,” he said on his official X account on Sunday.

“Our thoughts are with those affected. Thai nationals in Dhaka are advised to stay alert and follow updates and guidance from the Thai embassy."

The Bangladeshi government had imposed a nationwide curfew on Saturday in response to the protests and escalating violence.

Internet services, mobile networks and public transport have been disrupted.

According to reports, the protests carried out by students against government job quotas have resulted in the loss of more than 100 lives.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Foreign Ministry is urging its nationals in Dhaka to avoid travelling near protest areas and to refrain from unnecessary travels.

In a statement, the ministry said it has been informed by the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka that, thus far, there have been no reports of Thai nationals or Thai students being affected.

"Thai nationals are encouraged to closely follow news, warnings and other related instructions from the local authorities," it said.

The ministry said Thai nationals in Bangladesh can contact the Royal Thai Embassy at (+880 17) 0964 0808, 24 hours a day.
