Kuala Lah Orang Asli Urge Gov't To Build Drainage System To Solve Flood Woes

GUA MUSANG, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The Orang Asli community in Kampung Kuala Lah has urged the government to build a drainage system to solve flood problems in the area.

Kampung Kuala Lah tok batin (village elder) Ali Lateh said the floods often occur near their multipurpose hall and the main route of the village.

"If it rains continuously for a day, there will be ankle deep flood water, which actually should flow into Sungai Ular, which is near the location.

"This flash flood was said to have started after the construction of a culvert in the middle of the road that doesn’t have a drainage system and to overcome this, a drain should be built,” he told Bernama recently, adding that the flash flooding made it hard for vehicles to use the road.

Meanwhile, villager Atan Jusoh, 35, said that the government should consider building a playground as the Orang Asli children did not have a specific place for recreation and to play.

"There are over 50 children currently in Kampung Kuala Lah and they need a special area to play from early morning till evening, while adults can use the place for jogging and recreational activities with their families,” he said.

Gua Musang district head Nik Raisnan Daud shared that they had received complaints about flash flooding and the need to have a playground.

"Our team always monitors Kampung Kuala Lah as it is easy to access with normal vehicles, and we go in to check on farms cultivating oyster mushrooms, lemongrass, brinjals and chili.

"Regarding the proposed playground, the matter can be considered but we hope when it’s done, the community will cooperate by looking after it, especially where cleanliness to ensure it’s well maintained,” he added.
