SUKMA 2024: 35 Gold Medals At Stake Tomorrow, 14 From Martial Arts Alone

KUCHING, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The fight for gold will be most intense in martial arts, with 14 gold medals at stake in karate and taekwondo in tomorrow’s competition at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA). 

As the event enters its second day, karate will offer eight gold medals while taekwondo, which also started yesterday at the Petra Jaya Unity Stadium, will see six gold medals contested.

Shooting, opening today at the Sarawak Shooting Range, will feature six gold medals, while golf at the Sarawak Golf Club and archery at the Petra Jaya Archery Range will each offer four golds.

Squash and petanque will each offer two gold medals at the respective venues - the Sarawak Squash Centre in Petra Jaya and the Sarawak Petanque Centre in Santubong.

There are two golds at stake for tenpin bowling at Megalanes Sarawak while one gold is up for grabs for rhythmic gymnastics at the Borneo Convention Centre.

Tomorrow's events include BMX cycling at Bukit Siol DBKU, pencak silat at the Miri City Stadium, and women’s cricket at the Petra Jaya Cricket & Rugby Ground.

Men’s cricket, which began on Aug 13 at the same venue, will see quarter-finals action tomorrow.

Ongoing competitions tomorrow include basketball 5x5, women’s football, beach volleyball, lawn bowls, hockey, tennis, futsal, boxing, netball, badminton, indoor volleyball, muay thai, sepak takraw and softball.

SUKMA 2024 offers a total of 488 gold medals from 37 sports, with events held at 50 venues.

Over 12,000 athletes from across Malaysia, including Brunei, have confirmed their participation in this biennial national sports event.
