PARIS, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- Here are brief updates on Malaysian athletes at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Friday (Aug 30).

TRACK CYCLING:

The debut performances of two Malaysian representatives, Muhammad Adi Raimie Amizazahan and the tandem team of Nur Suraiya Muhammad Zamri-Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan (pilot), fell short as their campaigns ended in the qualifying rounds of their respective events at the Saint-Quentin-En-Yvelines Velodrome.

Muhammad Adi Raimie, competing in the men’s 3,000m individual pursuit C3 (physical impairment) event, finished last with a time of 3 minutes 47.922 seconds in a race dominated by Jaco van Gass from Great Britain (GBR), who clocked 3:15.488s, breaking his own world record of 3:17.593 set at Tokyo 2020.

The top two riders advanced to the gold medal race, while the third and fourth-place riders competed for the bronze.

Meanwhile, Nur Suraiya and Farina Shawati did not qualify for the final, finishing eighth with a time of 1:12.992s in the women’s 1,000m time trial B (visual impairment) event.

Elizabeth Jordan-Dannielle Khan (GBR) was the fastest qualifier in this event, recording a time of 1:06.870s.

BOCCIA:

The gold medallist from the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, Noor Askuzaimey Mat Salim, continued her impressive form here by securing her second consecutive victory in Group B, defeating Hanaa Elfar of Egypt, 11-3, in the women’s individual BC4 (physical impairment) event.

However, in the men’s category of the same classification, Abdul Razzaq Abdul Rahman was defeated by Iulian Ciobanu from Canada, 6-4, marking his second consecutive loss after a 0-8 defeat to Stephen McGuire from Great Britain.

Meanwhile, following his second loss in Group E for the men’s individual BC2 (physical impairment) event against Japan's Hidetaka Sugimura, 6-5, silver medallist from the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, Lee Chee Hoong, made a comeback with his first Paralympic win by defeating Lan Zhijian from China, 3-1.

WHEELCHAIR TENNIS:

Abu Samah Borhan began his third Paralympic campaign with a setback, being eliminated in the first round of the men’s singles event.

The 39-year-old player could not counter the performance of local competitor Gaetan Menguy, who advanced to the second round with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the iconic Stade Roland-Garros.

This marks Abu Samah’s second first-round exit after his debut at Rio 2016.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Yusshazwan Yusuf, making his Paralympic debut, faced a similar fate, losing to South Korea’s Im Ho Won with a score of 2-6, 3-6.

However, the campaign for Abu Samah and Muhammad Yusshazwan is not over yet, as they are set to compete in the men’s doubles event against the fifth-seeded pair from Spain, Daniel Caverzaschi and Martin De La Puente, in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round.
