PARIS, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Following are the snippets for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, here:

HOME CROWD IN AWE OF LIEK HOU, MUHAMMAD ZIYAD

The triumph of Malaysian para badminton star, Cheah Liek Hou, in defending his men’s singles SU5 (physical impairment) gold medal has sparked excitement not only among Malaysians but also captured the hearts of local fans at Porte de La Chapelle Arena.

Fans eagerly waited outside the venue to snap pictures with Liek Hou and personally congratulate him on his stellar victory, where he downed Indonesia’s Suryo Nugroho 21-13, 21-15 in the final, on Monday.

Although national para athletics ace Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli didn’t clinch the gold in the men’s shot put F20 (physical impairment), his silver medal finish drew cheers from the local crowd.

Several supporters gathered outside Stade de France to applaud the 34-year-old and offer words of encouragement after the event ended last Tuesday.

Ziyad’s impressive throw of 17.18 metres secured him the silver, behind Ukraine’s Oleksandr Yarovyi, who set a new world record with a 17.61m throw to take gold while his fellow teammate Maksym Koval claimed bronze with a distance of 16.99m.

THE PHRYGE PLUSH TOY: HOTTEST SOUVENIR IN PARIS

The Paralympic spirit is soaring in Paris as the plush toy of the official mascot, the Phryge, is flying off the shelves.

Priced at 15 Euro each, the adorable red-coloured souvenir has become a must-have for both locals and tourists.

Inspired by the iconic Phrygian cap, a symbol of freedom in French history, the Phryge is a fitting mascot for the Games.

As the Games draw to a close this Sunday, many official merchandise stores around the city are also offering great deals, with items like T-shirts discounted by up to 50%, giving fans a chance to grab a piece of history.

THE EIFFEL TOWER DAZZLES VISITORS WITH STUNNING GLOW

No trip to Paris is complete without a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower, one of the world’s most famous landmarks.

Standing tall at 300 meters, the Eiffel Tower never fails to captivate tourists.

But it’s at night that the magic truly unfolds, as the tower’s shimmering lights enchant visitors.

Many can’t help but gasp in excitement when the Eiffel Tower glitters for the first five minutes of every hour, creating an unforgettable experience.

GRAFFITI ART PAINTS THE STREETS

Paris is renowned for its artistic treasures, from the world-famous ‘Mona Lisa’ in the Louvre to its countless art museums.

But the city’s creativity isn’t confined to galleries as street art, particularly graffiti, flourishes across the cityscape.

With murals inspired by hip-hop culture and poetic verses, the walls and underpasses of Paris come alive with vibrant graffiti.

Visitors can also explore ‘open-air museums’ in several alleys, where they can immerse themselves in the creative energy of Parisian street artists.
