BUTTERWORTH, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Local communities have been urged to make full use of the services available at the 35 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) operating across Penang.

State Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee Chairman Zairil Khir Johari said NADI not only offers high-speed internet access but also improves residents’ quality of life through smart services provided.

“It also adds value to the people’s well-being through classes and programmes focused on digital entrepreneurship, offering guidance and training on how to use digital methods for online marketing.

“Participants will learn how to use equipment, create promotions, and design posters from appointed trainers. These classes and programmes are organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with Digital Penang,” he told reporters after officiating the Sungai Dua NADI here today.

In addition to the entrepreneurship classes and programmes, Zairil said one of the government’s intentions in establishing NADI is to improve digital literacy among the elderly to protect them from falling victim to prevalent fraudulent activities.

Meanwhile, he said that 35 NADIs are currently operating in Penang, and the Ministry of Communications, through MCMC, plans to add six more by the end of the year, bringing the total to 41.

“The prime minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), during his visit to the state on Feb 16, announced the construction and operation of 38 new NADIs in Penang, which were previously known as the Digital Economy Centre (PEDi),” he said.

Zairil said that the Sungai Dua NADI, situated in Taman Merbau Indah, has been operational since June 10 and is capable of accommodating up to 20 people.
