MAIWP Extends Support To Asnaf Families, Urges Community Involvement 

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) remains committed to supporting the asnaf community, as demonstrated through the Ziarah Asnaf Programme today, where aid was extended to three underprivileged families at the Beringin People’s Housing Project (PPR).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said that MAIWP consistently prioritises the welfare of asnaf, including providing financial assistance and basic necessities.

“MAIWP will continue to assist this group, as they have been entrusted with the responsibility of distributing tithe (zakat) funds,” he said.

Also present during the programme was MAIWP acting chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nizam Yahya.

Mohd Na’im also emphasised the importance of community involvement in supporting asnaf families, noting that it reflects the Islamic principle of helping those in need.

He expressed the hope that all quarters, especially the media, which may aid by increasing awareness through their reporting, will assist MAIWP in identifying asnaf individuals.

During the programme, Mohd Na’im presented an annual assistance of RM15,264 to Ramli Yusof, 74, and his wife, Shopiah Bakri, 66, to support the couple’s livelihood as they face various health challenges.

“Ramli is battling kidney disease, hypertension, diabetes and memory issues, while his wife suffers from hypertension, diabetes and nerve problems in her hands,” he said.

In addition, a monthly contribution of over RM2,000 was presented to Awaluddin Ismail, 44, a colorectal cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Mohd Na’im also visited Jamal Sulaiman, 50, who lost his left leg to diabetes, to hand over various forms of support, including monthly financial aid and school assistance for his children, amounting to over RM21,000 annually.

“MAIWP has also provided Jamal with a new wheelchair to ease his movement to the clinic, and one of his children, who faces financial difficulties, has been offered an opportunity to pursue studies in the culinary field,” he said.

After that, Mohd Na’im visited the Air Panas PPR here to check on Mohamad Khairul Azman Jamaludin, 30, who previously gained attention for living in a dilapidated hut with his wife and three children aged one to five years.

In August, MAIWP stepped in to assist Mohd Khairul Azman, including arranging a rental home at the PPR.
