An-Nur Care Offers Free Medical Coverage To More Than 500 Asnaf

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Family takaful operator Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad (PruBSN) and Waqaf An-Nur Corporation Berhad (Waqaf An-Nur) have launched An-Nur Care, a pioneering initiative that will provide free outpatient medical coverage to over 500 individuals from the asnaf (those eligible to receive tithe) community.

PruBSN, in a statement today, said that An-Nur Care offers basic medical coverage, which includes consultations and treatment by general medical practitioners for 12 months, with a total annual limit of RM300.

"This initiative reflects PruBSN's and Waqaf An-Nur's commitment not only to providing immediate assistance but also to driving long-term positive change in the community," said the statement.

The statement noted that the 2023 National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) found that 61.5 per cent of outpatient treatments were self-funded by patients or their family members, and approximately 12.9 per cent of Malaysians did not seek medical treatment due to financial constraints.

"This indicates that access to healthcare remains one of the biggest challenges for low-income families, especially among marginalised segments such as the asnaf group," it added.

PruBSN chief executive officer Wan Saifulrizal Wan Ismail said that through An-Nur Care, PruBSN reinforces its commitment to expanding access to healthcare to those most in need.

"Our collaboration with Waqaf An-Nur is driven by our shared commitment to sustainable development. PruBSN's mission has always been focused on empowering individuals and communities by providing protection for all," he said.

Meanwhile, Waqaf An-Nur chief executive officer Bukhari Abdul Rahman said they believe a lasting positive impact in the healthcare sector can be achieved by addressing the root causes of people's inability to access healthcare.

"Our collaboration with PruBSN emphasises our shared mission to provide effective long-term solutions for marginalised groups, ensuring that sustainability is not just a concept, but a reality experienced by communities such as the asnaf group," he said.

He added that PruBSN and Waqaf An-Nur aim to expand this initiative further to assist a broader segment of the asnaf community and ensure that more people can benefit.

The launch of An-Nur Care aligns with PruBSN's efforts to support the national sustainability agenda, such as the People's Welfare Insurance Scheme (SIKR), providing life coverage to 300,000 people from the B40 segment this year.

PruBSN is committed to expanding its takaful offerings to meet the needs of marginalised communities, addressing their immediate and long-term health needs through targeted and inclusive initiatives.
