KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- The federal government has approved 90 programmes and development projects for Labuan, with an allocation of RM1.66 billion under Rolling Plan 5 of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), the Dewan Negara was told today.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said it involved 22 new programmes, which would be implemented by various ministries and federal agencies, while the rest were extension projects."

“The approved programmes and projects cover several key sectors, including water infrastructure, housing, public facilities, and areas such as education, recreation, transport, and health.

“The implementation of these projects is expected to provide great benefits to the people of Labuan as a whole, as well as support various industries in Labuan,” she said during an oral question and answer session.

She said this in response to Senator Tan Sri Anifah Aman’s question about the development projects for Labuan, alongside the 180 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras allocated in Budget 2025.

Elaborating, Dr Zaliha said that the Budget 2025 allocation for Labuan also included a total of RM7 million for ferry fare discounts, as well as an increase in the General Assistance rate to RM150 per month, with a maximum limit of RM500 per family.

She said that the Department of Federal Territories and related agencies were currently preparing plans for development projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

“Among other things, it focuses on boosting tourism activities, improving air and sea transport connectivity, increasing the number of accommodation facilities, and facilitating transshipment,” she said.

In response to Anifah Aman’s supplementary question about why the project in Labuan was not implemented directly by the Labuan Corporation or the Prime Minister’s Department, Dr Zaliha said it was due to capacity and resource constraints.
