YOUTH, THE DETERMINANT IN EFFORT TO COMBAT CORRUPTION AND INTEGRITY ISSUES

KUANTAN, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- Youth, especially students of institutions of higher learning (IPT) who will administer  and lead the country in future will be the determining factor in the efforts to battle corruption and integrity issues in society.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman said this is because young people must become agents of change and thus develop Malaysia towards a better future.

"Maybe you, the current generation Z, don't see it, but try to open your mind wide and you will see where the country is headed if this integrity issue is not addressed.

"If you look at developed countries that can address the integrity issue, they will move forward compared to us who have not been able to resolve it for years," he said.

He said this when speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the Eastern Zone Higher Education Institutions Anti-Corruption Student Camp (AMAR) 2024 at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS) here today.

Themed '' Mahasiswa Tolak Rasuah, Penggerak Negara MADANI", the AMAR Camp was held in collaboration with Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) and MACC with a focus on educating students on corruption, improving ethical behaviour and developing future leaders with integrity.

Held for three days starting last Friday in Cherating here, the programme was attended by 88 IPT and college students with various interesting activities such as workshops, seminars and interactive sessions.

Explaining further, Azmi said that today's youth will face a real situation when they enter the world of work or national administration with various challenges including integrity.

"You will all take over the administration of the country and you will also be held accountable. There, you will see how important the issue of integrity is. When you work, you will be tested," he said.

"It's up to you whether you want to be among those who commit integrity violations, sit in the middle and just keep quiet or not allow it to happen," he said.
