URDA Road Project Will Benefit Over 2,000 Villagers - Nanta Linggi

KAPIT, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- More than 2,000 villagers in Kampung Baleh, Kampung Nanga Benin, Kampung Nanga Pelagus, and Kampung Pelagus Resort are set to benefit from the new road project in the area once it is completed in April 2027.

The estimated RM70 million project spanning seven kilometres, which includes two bridges has been re-tendered to a new contractor after the termination of the previous contractor.

The groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 1, Section 1 of the Baleh/Rh. Belaja, Ng. Benin/SK. Ng. Pelagus/Pelagus Resort New Road Project under the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) was held today.

“Although the construction covers a relatively short distance, it requires significant funding and a three-year timeline due to the challenging terrain,” said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi in a statement.

Upon completion, it will complement several other ongoing projects in the vicinity, including those spearheaded by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.

He urged the appointed contractor to complete the project efficiently within the stipulated timeframe and avoid requesting an extension to help save government funds.

“As the Kapit member of parliament and URDA chairman, I will ensure that other infrastructure and road construction projects under URDA receive the necessary allocations to complete the road network in this region,” he added.

Nanta expressed confidence that the completion of several projects in the surrounding areas within the next two to three years would greatly improve the lives of residents from Kapit to Belaga, who currently depend on logging roads due to the area's remote location.

Also present at the ceremony was Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang.
