Johor's Revenue Hits RM2.1 Bln In 2024, Highest Recorded -- Onn Hafiz

ISKANDAR PUTERI, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Johor recorded a revenue collection of RM2.1 billion last year, the highest ever recorded, said Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He said the amount collected exceeded the RM1.9 billion target set by the state government.

“Thanks to the efforts of all parties, we successfully recorded state revenue of RM2.1 billion, the highest ever recorded for Johor.

“We are grateful, and at the same time, we will strive to further increase the state’s revenue and return (the benefits) back to the people,” he said at a press conference after attending the Johor Economic Transformation Programme (JETP) Strategic Workshop here today.

The chief minister said this when asked to comment on the state government’s revenue last year.

Onn Hafiz said that based on this encouraging achievement, the state government is confident it can achieve a revenue of at least RM2.3 billion to RM2.5 billion by the end of this year.

“I have discussed and presented (the achievements of Johor’s revenue) to the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ismail, and the state government wants the surplus revenue to be returned and benefit people.

“It is pointless for us to have a lot of income if the benefits are not returned, and the people need to enjoy the economic spillover,” he said.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz said that he, along with the state government’s delegation, accompanied Tunku Ismail on a working visit to Doha, Qatar recently.

He said that among the achievements from the visit was Qatar Airways’ intention to establish a presence and build maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities at Senai International Airport.

“Qatar Airways is obtaining a lot of information from us (the state government) in terms of logistics and so on. The state government sent them related documents and data on Monday (Jan 13),” he said.

Onn Hafiz said that this would further boost the logistics sector in the state if successfully realised, in addition to the federal government’s efforts, which allocated RM2 billion to upgrade Senai International Airport.

“The details will be finalised accordingly, but for now, they are confidential. There are plans, and they will be finalised soon for us to upgrade Senai International Airport,” he added.
