KLANG, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Berjaya Corporation Bhd founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan has donated RM250,000 to support three local schools and five temples in Pulau Ketam, improving the quality of life for the island's residents.
He expressed his pleasure at being there for the first time and he was happy to make the donation, hoping it will help foster the continued development of local schools, support community associations, and enhance the well-being of the elderly residents.
“Education is a vital foundation for a prosperous future, and together, we can help create a stronger and more connected community for all,” he said in a statement in conjunction with his visit to Pulau Ketam here today.
During the visit, Tan shared that his trip was also in conjunction with his good friend, Tan Sri Lim Kuang Sia, the managing director and group chief executive officer of Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd, who hails from Pulau Ketam.
“He (Lim) shared with me that when he was young, he worked as a fisherman alongside his father. However, he later decided he no longer wanted to fish and pursued further education instead,” Tan added.
“Today, he is a successful individual and an influential figure at Kossan Rubber Industries,” he remarked.
Tan also highlighted the growing number of both local and international tourists visiting Pulau Ketam, drawn by its various attractions, including homestays and hotels.
“This is a tourist destination in Selangor. For Chinese and Japanese tourists, it holds particular appeal due to its fresh seafood, prepared in a variety of styles,” he explained.
In the joyful spirit of the Lunar New Year, the visit, focused on spreading warmth and enhancing the well-being of those in need, featured a variety of delightful activities, including lion dances, popular Chinese New Year songs, and a prize presentation ceremony for local students who excelled in a calligraphy competition.
