Speaking at a meeting with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian here, Putin emphasised its significance as a foundational document that will deepen bilateral ties.

"Your visit today is of special significance, because we have not only had the opportunity to discuss all areas of our cooperation, but we have also signed a major basic treaty between Russia and Iran on comprehensive strategic partnership," Putin said.

He noted that Moscow and Tehran had worked on the agreement for an extended period.
