KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Uzbekistan Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) today signed an action plan to strengthen cooperation in the areas of professional training, anti-corruption strategies and the sharing of best practices.

The MACC said in a statement uploaded on social media that the action plan was also signed to enhance accountability as well as strengthen mechanisms, development and legislation related to corruption.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the collaboration was in line with the commitment of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to combat corruption, as expressed during a meeting last May.

"This action plan is also a continuation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the MACC and ACA of the Republic of Uzbekistan in May 2022.

"Through this action plan, both parties will cooperate on capacity building; the organising and joint participation in forums, workshops and seminars; cross-placement of officers; and knowledge sharing in the areas of operations, prevention, education and management,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the signing ceremony of the action plan at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya, which was also attended by the director of ACA of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Dr Akmal Burkhanov and MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya.

The action plan was signed by Azam and Dr Akmal and witnessed by MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya.

Meanwhile, Akmal expressed hope that the plan would encourage and strengthen the anti-corruption academy that was recently established by ACA through strategic collaboration for the development of modules and trainers.
