KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- The National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) has established specialised Working Groups (WGs) to accelerate Malaysia’s AI agenda and reinforce its position as a leading AI-driven economy.
The Ministry of Digital in a statement said the WGs, set to commence operations this month, bring together top experts from technology, academia, industry, government, and civil society to spearhead AI advancements in the country.
“These experts will contribute their collective knowledge to shape AI progress in Malaysia, ensuring it is guided by ethical principles, public interest, and long-term sustainability,” read the statement.
Each WG is tasked with clear objectives and measurable outcomes, working closely with sectoral teams to implement AI strategies that will drive economic growth and benefit society.
These groups will focus on enhancing Malaysia’s control over AI capabilities, data, and infrastructure while developing clear regulations and policies. AI security is also a priority, with efforts to mitigate risks that could affect national and digital safety.
Additionally, they will establish governance models and ethical guidelines to promote responsible AI use, ensuring that AI systems are reliable, trustworthy, and serve the public interest.
The ministry added that these WGs reflect Malaysia’s inclusive and forward-thinking approach to AI leadership, harnessing diverse expertise to craft impactful policies that will shape the nation’s digital future.
A key objective of this initiative is to strengthen AI governance frameworks to build public trust while accelerating AI adoption in vital sectors such as healthcare, transportation, agriculture, and public services.
To ensure a holistic and high-impact AI strategy, NAIO welcomes participation from all sectors. Interested parties can submit proposals and recommendations to contactus@ai.gov.my.
