KANGAR, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- The Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) has channelled RM8,439,900 in school aid to benefit 12,057 students from asnaf families across the state.
MAIPs chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor said that RM3,207,400 of the total allocation was channelled to secondary school students and RM5,232,500 for primary school students, with each student receiving RM700.
“Each student will receive RM300 for uniform, stationery and school supplies, RM300 for educational and character development programmes, and RM100 in cash.
“This structured distribution aims to ensure that the basic needs of schooling, the development of academic potential, and the character building of asnaf students are strengthened comprehensively.
“A total of 4,582 secondary school students and 7,475 primary school students have benefitted from the assistance, bringing the total number of MAIPs school aid recipients for 2026 to 12,057,” he said in a statement today.
The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, officiated the symbolic handover of the aid on the Perlis State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs) grounds here recently.
Mohd Nazim said the aid was channelled through strategic cooperation between MAIPs and the State Education Department, involving proposals from school managements that were verified via the online information system to ensure a transparent selection process.
He said the school aid reflected MAIPs’ continued commitment to the educational welfare of underprivileged students and was intended to help ease their parents’ burden amid rising schooling costs.
“MAIPs is optimistic that this effort will continue to strengthen the education in Perlis while ensuring that the welfare and future of asnaf children are safeguarded, preventing them from being left behind in the education stream due to financial constraints,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said MAIPs had appointed Muraqib Amil teachers to help identify asnaf students eligible for assistance, ensuring their welfare is effectively safeguarded and the aid distribution process is streamlined.
