MAIK Approves 215 Housing Units For Asnaf Last Year

BACHOK, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) approved the construction of 215 housing units for the asnaf community in the state last year, involving an allocation of RM14.9 million.

MAIK president Tan Sri Tengku Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz said that the value of each house ranged between RM65,000 and RM80,000, depending on the size and needs of the recipient’s family.

“We provide three-room houses valued at RM65,000, four-room houses at RM73,000 and five-room houses at RM80,000.

“MAIK works closely with the Land and District Office in selecting recipients, in addition to obtaining information from local leaders, such as penghulu and penggawa,” he said.

He said this at the launch of the MAIK 2026 Asnaf Early Schooling Assistance programme, and the presentation of replica MAIK house keys to 24 recipients, at Masjid Jamek Mahmoodi, here, today.

Earlier, Tengku Mohamad Rizam presented RM150 in early schooling assistance to 210 students from mosques in the Bachok zone, involving a total allocation of RM31,500.

He said the annual allocation for early schooling assistance to the asnaf group this year amounted to RM3.5 million, benefiting 25,578 students statewide.

Meanwhile, one of the MAIK housing recipients, Nor Asiah Safei, 39, from Kampung Nipah, here, expressed her gratitude for having a home of her own, and no longer needing to pay RM300 in monthly rent.

“For the past eight years, my husband, Raja Shahrun Eshan Raja Ali, 38, and I, along with our two children, have been living in a rented house, paying RM300 per month.

“I have been applying for MAIK housing assistance since 2022, and never gave up hope of owning a home. Alhamdulillah, I am grateful that my patience has finally been rewarded with a three-room house, valued at RM65,000,” she said.
