KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Highway users are advised to plan their journeys with the MyPLUS-TTA digital travel schedule ahead of the anticipated traffic surge during the Chinese New Year celebrations on Feb 17.
PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) managing director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar said that MyPLUS-TTA, an application launched in 2023, has reached nearly 30 per cent usage among 2.2 million highway users.
“We can observe the travel patterns of previous users, particularly during the festive season, through MyPLUS-TTA. If more people use the application, I am confident that traffic flow will improve further.
“MyPLUS-TTA is PLUS’ digital solution designed to assist motorists in planning and choosing the most suitable trips during festive seasons and other peak periods,” she told a press conference during the PLUS Central Region Media Tour at R&R Sungai Buloh here today.
Nik Nik Airina said that PLUS anticipated traffic on several major highways to surge to around 2.2 million vehicles per day starting Feb 12, with peak travel periods from Feb 12 to 14 for journeys out of the Klang Valley and from Feb 20 to 22 for return trips to the federal capital.
She said that PLUS would also activate smart lanes at 32 locations expected to see heavier traffic during the festive season from Feb 12 to 14.
Nik Airina said the implementation of smart lanes would cover 19 locations in the central region, five in the north and eight in the south to manage severe congestion in some areas, including accident hot spots.
“Drivers are urged to be careful, obey traffic instructions and drive responsibly,” she said.
Nik Airina added that to ensure more efficient accident management, PLUS had formed an emergency response team in cooperation with the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, the Road Transport Department, and an ambulance team, involving a total of 432 personnel.
“PLUS has identified about 30 hotspot areas, including the Menora Tunnel. For the comfort of users, more than 60 rest and recreation (R&R) locations, lay-bys and toll plazas have been upgraded since 2023, with 26 cabin toilet units added at several sites to increase capacity during peak hours for the festive season,” she said.
