IPOH, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) will collaborate with the Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) to build an innovative ecosystem aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups.

Minister Datuk Chang Lih Kang said that businesses must adapt amid global uncertainties and rapid technological advances.

“PCCCI is an indispensable force in making this possible. For a long time, its mission has been to unite the state’s business community,” he said at the Chinese New Year open house organised by PCCCI here today.

He said the chamber serves as a bridge between the government and Chinese businesses, giving SMEs a voice.

“Regardless of which coalition is in power, PCCCI maintains its position and impartially conveys the industry’s views to the government,” he added.

Also present were State Housing and Local Government committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching and PCCCI president Datuk Liew Chee Ming.

Meanwhile, Liew said the global economy is entering the era of artificial intelligence (AI), which is no longer confined to large corporations and multinational companies, and will reshape production, management, marketing and service models.

He said if the government helps micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) adopt AI technologies and provides stronger incentives and support packages to drive AI-driven transformation, overall competitiveness would improve and Malaysian enterprises would not be left behind in the next wave of technological advancement.

“MSMEs are the backbone of the national economy. They not only drive domestic demand but also provide substantial employment opportunities,” he said.

Liew said PCCCI hopes the government will continue strengthening support across financing, technology, training and market expansion to enable MSMEs to grow steadily and sustainably.
