HAWANA 2026 Fun Walk Draws 1,500 Participants, Registration Closes Early

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Bernama) -- The inaugural HAWANA 2026 Fun Walk, held in conjunction with National Journalists' Day (HAWANA), has attracted 1,500 participants, prompting organisers to close registration ahead of schedule.

HAWANA 2026 Sports Committee chairman Abdul Halim Hafiz Mohamad Radzali said the response from both media practitioners and the public reflected strong support for family-oriented recreational activities.

"The encouraging support from both media practitioners and members of the public clearly shows that family-oriented recreational activities such as this are well received," he said during Bernama Radio's Fokus 30 programme today.

The 2.6-kilometre walk will be held at Titiwangsa Lake Gardens this Sunday, with participants advised to arrive by 6.30 am for registration, warm-up exercises and a safety briefing before the 8 am flag-off.

Family-friendly activities, including traditional games such as batu seremban, congkak, kercang and dam haji, as well as colouring contests and quizzes, will also be held.

Participant kits can be collected by Bernama staff and their families at Dewan Bernama today, while members of the public may collect theirs at the Wisma Bernama lobby tomorrow from 10 am to 4 pm.

Abdul Halim Hafiz said Titiwangsa Lake Gardens was selected for its iconic status and safe, vehicle-free walking track.

He said the organisers were working closely with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) to manage traffic, with about 15 Bernama staff serving as marshals along the route.

Participants must obtain a verification sticker at the Info Station at Checkpoint 2, which must be affixed to their bib and presented at the finishing line to qualify for a participation medal, he added.

The programme will feature 500 lucky draw prizes worth RM50,000, including 10 electric motorcycles worth RM3,000 each, bicycles and household electrical appliances.

Participants can also enter an Instagram photography contest featuring five categories, including Best Costume, Most Sporting Participant and Best Selfie, by uploading photos using the event's official hashtag and setting their accounts to public mode.

The HAWANA 2026 Fun Walk is among the activities organised to bring together media practitioners and the public while promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The highlight of HAWANA 2026 will be held in Penang on June 20 and is scheduled to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
