IPOH, June 12 (Bernama) -- Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) has described attempts to link Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to turmoil within the Opposition as a desperate effort to conceal the bloc’s leadership weaknesses.
AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said it was unreasonable to blame Anwar for every internal crisis affecting the Opposition, and that the issues actually stemmed from power struggles and disputes over seat allocations.
“Others are the ones aggressively manoeuvring politically, creating instability, engaging in a backstabbing culture and various political schemes, including attempts to form a government through backdoor moves, yet it is the Prime Minister who is being blamed.
“Marzuki (Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad) himself admitted that internal turmoil exists within the Opposition due to seat disputes and differing political interests. If that is the case, why should Anwar be held responsible?” he said in a statement today.
Muhammad Kamil was commenting on remarks by Marzuki, the former principal private secretary to the eighth prime minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, regarding the existence of what he described as “high-level political manoeuvring” allegedly known to Anwar.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Kamil said the crisis currently affecting the Opposition clearly reflected weaknesses in its leadership and its failure to manage its own coalition, rather than any interference from external parties.
He said efforts to revive political cooperation that had previously failed only demonstrated that the Opposition was running out of ideas and unable to offer a convincing agenda to the people.
“The people are increasingly aware that alliances such as Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Muafakat Nasional (MN) have failed to present a clear economic plan and a strong development agenda.
“Instead, they continue to rely on politics of hatred and narrowly exploit racial and religious sentiments to gain support,” he said.
Muhammad Kamil said that while the opposition remained preoccupied with political manoeuvring and power struggles, the government led by Anwar continued to focus on strengthening the national economy, attracting investments and enhancing Malaysia’s economic resilience.
“The Prime Minister has just returned from a working visit to Tokyo and continues to focus on strengthening the economy and safeguarding the interests of the people.
“Unfortunately, some parties remain trapped in old political games, preoccupied with political manoeuvres and backdoor schemes when the people are looking for solutions to issues such as the cost of living, employment and national development,” he said.
