Fahmi Disappointed Chean Chung Chose Social Media Over Party Channels

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today expressed disappointment that Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung chose to air his views on the party's direction through social media instead of raising them at official party meetings.

Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said Lee, as a leader elected by party members in the recent party polls, should have used the PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) platform to voice any concerns or criticisms.

He cited former Bukit Lanjan assemblywoman Elizabeth Wong as an example, noting that she had consistently attended MPP meetings to express her views despite often holding positions that differed significantly from those of the party's top leadership.

“That is the platform she uses to ensure, in her view, that the party remains on the right track. Chean Chung should have done the same, but he has not attended MPP meetings for quite some time,” he told a weekly press conference here when asked about Lee's resignation as an MPP member.

It was reported today that Lee had announced his resignation from the PKR Central Leadership Council, while remaining a member of the party.

Lee said he made the decision after feeling that PKR was no longer the party he had joined in 2008.

Fahmi said he had known Lee since the latter served as a research officer in Parliament, adding that he (Fahmi) had not seen any significant change in the party's direction or struggle over the years.

He added that Lee also owed an explanation to party members who had voted for him in the party elections regarding his decision to step down.

Asked about Lee's claim that he had faced pressure from the party, including restrictions on access to the myKhas system, Fahmi said the door was always open for discussions to resolve any issues.

“In any matter, he can come and discuss it. It is not an issue. In fact, I can say that Chean Chung has been in touch with me, but he never raised this issue,” he said.
